Description

The LoRa Sound Sensor is a multifunctional sensor that was developed especially for the detection of sounds and noise in the workplace. It records both the average and the maximum noise level and is therefore ideal for detecting and avoiding disturbance factors and for monitoring and documenting legal requirements for the workplace.

Temperature, humidity and brightness data can be used to monitor and optimize heating, air conditioning, ventilation and lighting conditions. An indoor climate that is pleasant for everyone can be created on the basis of objective facts. The integrated, infrared-based motion sensor transmits the number of movements detected during this period every 15 minutes – completely anonymously. On this basis, space utilization and requirements can be analyzed in detail and demand-oriented services, such as cleaning, can be introduced.

The sensor has a battery life of around 2 years and is characterized by a long radio range within buildings. Thanks to a special transmission protocol, maximum availability of the measured values (>99%) can be achieved even at long ranges and in challenging environments. Its simple design makes this sensor suitable for any environment, such as offices, schools or healthcare facilities.

Measuring points

Data acquisition

  • The sensor measures the current volume every 10 seconds and transmits the average volume per transmission interval.
  • Transmission interval: 15 minutes
  • Value range: 35 – 70 dBspl (resolution: 1 dB, accuracy: +/-5 dB)

Data acquisition

  • The sensor measures the current volume every 10 seconds and transmits the maximum volume per transmission interval.
  • Transmission interval: 15 minutes
  • Value range: 65 – 99 dBspl (resolution: 1 dB, accuracy: +/-5 dB)

Data acquisition

  • The indoor air temperature (e.g. office, classroom) is transmitted every 15 minutes.
  • Value range: 0 – 50°C (resolution: 0.1°C; accuracy: +/- 0.2°C)

Visualization

Visualization / screenshot as line diagram (1-hour resolution):

Temperature profile of a month in a LineMetrics office. As can be seen from the ranges, the majority of the measured values are within the optimum temperature range for an office. The color-coded areas can be configured individually.

Data acquisition

  • The relative humidity indoors is transmitted every 15 minutes.
  • Value range: 0 – 85% RH (resolution: 0.1% RH; accuracy: +/- 2% RH)

Visualization

Relative humidity curve over an entire month in a LineMetrics office.

Data acquisition

The sensor uses a PIR sensor to detect movements within a radius of max. 5 meters. The number of movements is sent every 15 minutes.

Detection area (lateral view when the sensor is mounted at a height of 1.60 m):

Visualization

Shows the number of movements per hour in a LineMetrics office (in times of home office).

Movement data can be further calculated into room status data in the LineMetrics Cloud:

Times during a day when a LineMetrics office space is occupied (1) or not occupied (0).

Note: Due to the fixed transmission interval of 15 minutes, the occupancy status of the room cannot be recorded in real time! If the occupancy of a room is required in real time (e.g. meeting room occupancy after booking), the LoRa room occupancy sensor should be used.

Data acquisition

  • The recorded light intensity indoors is transmitted every 15 minutes.
  • Value range: 4 – 2000 LUX (resolution: 1 LUX / accuracy: +/- 10 LUX)

Visualization

Progression of light intensity over the course of a month in a LineMetrics office.

Battery-operated with around 2 years runtime

LoRa radio is very energy efficient. Depending on the quality of the wireless connection, the batteries will last for many years.

Plug and Play

Plug & Play integration into the overall system

It’s easy to obtain your first measurement data in just a few minutes thanks to the modular system – from the sensor to the cloud.

Your benefits with the LineMetrics platform

All-in-one: A complete system for room monitoring

ELS-ERS-SOUND_certified

1. Record noise level & co

The battery-operated wireless sensor can be installed in any room. It reliably records all values and transmits them via LoRa.

2. transmit measurement data

The LoRa wireless gateway creates a wireless network for up to 1,000 sensors. The collected measurement data is transmitted to the cloud via mobile radio.

3. evaluate and alert

All sensors are managed and all measurement data stored in the cloud. Analyses, alerts and data integration via API are easily possible.

What is behind it? Find out what LineMetrics can do to help you easily obtain the measurement data you need.

Developing and operating an IoT-based monitoring solution is more complex than many people think. Here is just a small excerpt of what LineMetrics can do for you in the background so that you can easily and reliably obtain the measurement data you need:

  • Selection of international suppliers, supply chain management and price negotiations
  • Selection and testing of individual hardware devices, hardware quality management
  • Device and firmware management
  • Optimizations in terms of radio range and battery life
  • Database management
  • Connectivity management (SIM cards)
  • Security and encryption, including updates
  • Creation of instructions and support during rollout
  • 24/7 monitoring of the entire solution, support in the event of problems

Cloud platform: Analyze and process measured values

The LineMetrics Cloud allows you to create individual dashboards on which you can keep an eye on the data that is most important to you. Measured values can be displayed, combined and colored in the form of bars, curves, dial gauges, etc. This screenshot shows past and current measured values of the sensor:

Warning messages can be created for individual ranges/limit values and provided with a trigger delay. This means that no warning is sent if critical values are only briefly exceeded. A second condition for triggering a warning can also be configured.

Alerts can be sent by e-mail (see screenshot) or SMS. The recipient, subject and message can be easily configured individually.

Plug & play: obtain measurement data quickly and easily (< 3 minutes!)

The most important questions and answers from the field

How many sensors do I need?
Ideally, an area of 20 to 25 m² is monitored with one sensor. This guide value naturally depends on the room layout and how closely monitoring is to be carried out. For larger projects, we are happy to create individual concepts based on the room plans.

Can I remove the sensor?

The sensor can be easily removed and placed elsewhere as long as it is within the radio range of a LineMetrics LoRa gateway in the same account.

Can I buy just the sensor?

No. LineMetrics is not a hardware vendor, but the ideal solution for anyone who wants to focus on their business and drive it forward with sensor data. This is only possible with an all-in-one solution.
