LoRa room utilization sensor
Detects the presence of people in a room
Other values: temperature, humidity, brightness, movement
Enormous wireless range – no comparison with WiFi
Low maintenance due to long battery life
Plug & play integration with the LineMetrics platform
Description
The LoRa room occupancy sensor anonymously detects the presence of people in a room through body heat and movement. It transmits to the minute whether someone is in the room or not and is therefore ideal for supplying a room booking system with up-to-date data, for example. It also transmits the number of movements in the room at 15-minute intervals. This data is the ideal basis for demand-oriented cleaning and comprehensive area utilization analyses.
Temperature, humidity and brightness data can be used to optimize heating, air conditioning and lighting conditions. Subjective discussions can be objectified to create a pleasant indoor climate for everyone.
The sensor also has a long radio range inside buildings and a battery life of up to 5 years. Thanks to a special transmission protocol, maximum availability of the measured values (>99%) can be achieved even at long ranges and in challenging environments. Its simple design makes this sensor suitable for any environment, such as offices, schools or healthcare facilities.

Measuring points
Data acquisition
- The indoor air temperature (e.g. office, classroom) is transmitted every 15 minutes.
- Value range: 0 – 50°C (resolution: 0.1°C; accuracy: +/- 0.2°C)
Visualization
Visualization / screenshot as line diagram (1-hour resolution):
Temperature profile of a month in a LineMetrics office. As can be seen from the ranges, the majority of the measured values are within the optimum temperature range for an office. The color-coded areas can be configured individually.
Data acquisition
- The relative humidity indoors is transmitted every 15 minutes.
- Value range: 0 – 85% RH (resolution: 0.1% RH; accuracy: +/- 2% RH)
Visualization
Relative humidity curve over an entire month in a LineMetrics office.
Data acquisition
- The sensor uses a PIR sensor to detect movements within a radius of max. 5 meters.
- The number of movements is sent every 15 minutes.
Detection area (lateral view when the sensor is mounted at a height of 1.60 m):
Visualization
Shows the number of movements per hour in a LineMetrics office (in times of home office).
Movement data can be further calculated into room status data in the LineMetrics Cloud:
Times during a day when a LineMetrics office space is occupied (1) or not occupied (0).
Note: Due to the fixed transmission interval of 15 minutes, the occupancy status of the room cannot be recorded in real time! If the occupancy of a room is required in real time (e.g. meeting room occupancy after booking), the LoRa room occupancy sensor should be used.
Data acquisition
- Movements or heat sources are used to detect whether a room is occupied.
- Detection area: 5 m in diameter for ceiling mounting
- This information is transmitted almost in real time – within one minute.
Visualization
Course of room occupancy over the course of a week (1 = occupied; 0 = free).
Note: The heat sensor may also detect other hot objects (e.g. hob).
Data acquisition
- The recorded light intensity indoors is transmitted every 15 minutes.
- Value range: 4 – 2000 LUX (resolution: 1 LUX / accuracy: +/- 10 LUX)
Visualization
Progression of light intensity over the course of a month in a LineMetrics office.

Many kilometers of range outdoors or hundreds of meters indoors – no comparison with WiFi! More >
Battery-operated with up to 5 years runtime
LoRa radio is very energy efficient. Depending on the quality of the wireless connection, the batteries will last for many years.
Plug & Play integration into the overall system
It’s easy to obtain your first measurement data in just a few minutes thanks to the modular system – from the sensor to the cloud.
Your benefits with the LineMetrics platform
All-in-one: A complete system for room monitoring
1. Record capacity utilization & Co
The battery-operated wireless sensor can be installed in any room. It reliably records all values and transmits them via LoRa.
2. transmit measurement data
The LoRa wireless gateway creates a wireless network for up to 1,000 sensors. The collected measurement data is transmitted to the cloud via mobile radio.
3. evaluate and alert
All sensors are managed and all measurement data stored in the cloud. Analyses, alerts and data integration via API are easily possible.
What is behind it? Find out what LineMetrics can do to help you easily obtain the measurement data you need.
Developing and operating an IoT-based monitoring solution is more complex than many people think. Here is just a small excerpt of what LineMetrics can do for you in the background so that you can easily and reliably obtain the measurement data you need:
- Selection of international suppliers, supply chain management and price negotiations
- Selection and testing of individual hardware devices, hardware quality management
- Device and firmware management
- Optimizations in terms of radio range and battery life
- Database management
- Connectivity management (SIM cards)
- Security and encryption, including updates
- Creation of instructions and support during rollout
- 24/7 monitoring of the entire solution, support in the event of problems
Cloud platform: Analyze and process measured values
The LineMetrics Cloud allows you to create individual dashboards on which you can keep an eye on the data that is most important to you. Measured values can be displayed, combined and colored in the form of bars, curves, dial gauges, etc. This screenshot shows past and current measured values of the sensor:
Warning messages can be created for individual ranges/limit values and provided with a trigger delay. This means that no warning is sent if critical values are only briefly exceeded. A second condition for triggering a warning can also be configured.
Alerts can be sent by e-mail (see screenshot) or SMS. The recipient, subject and message can be easily configured individually.
Plug & play: obtain measurement data quickly and easily (< 3 minutes!)
The LineMetrics complete solution enables the solution to be commissioned via plug & play – without technicians, IT department, cable laying and network access. We will send you all the hardware with all accessories and simple commissioning instructions. The first measurement data can be analyzed in the LineMetrics Cloud within a few minutes. For questions, problems and tips, we have set up a comprehensive service center for you and can of course also be contacted personally at any time.
